IP Multipath as a key function in the FRMCS Onboard Gateway
De-coupling radio access and data transmission technology, as well as introducing combined radio access technologies (e.g. Wi-Fi and 5G or multiple 5G operators), poses challenges during handovers between different Access Point Nodes (APN) or IP address ranges. Historically, the Internet Protocol framework connects single endpoints in dedicated networks, meaning that any change in an IP address or APN interrupts the data stream. Factors such as bandwidth limitations in the n100 and n101 bands as well as Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) availability also highlight the need for innovative data stream handling mechanisms within the FRMCS gateway to avoid any interruptions and capacity bottlenecks....
