GPS/GNSS Based Train Positioning for Safety Critical Applications
This paper deals with the accuracy of a GPS receiver needed for railway safety-related applications. Positional accuracy is investigated both theoretically and experimentally with respect to the position detection of routing rail vehicle on a switch. Further, recent field tests of the train position locator APOLO based on GNSS-1 and inertial navigation are briefly described. The APOLO tests were performed on CD and RENFE tracks in three modes: standard GPS C/A stand alone, with differential corrections transmitted through the EGNOS satellite, and in the local mode with RTCM-104 differential corrections.
