Satellite-aided Rail Vehicle Positioning for Industrial Railways Used by LogServ

September 2001 | Gerhard Holzmüller, Joachim Winter

Telematics is a key technology in the management of increasingly complex transport processes. Using satellite-aided location of plant and mainline locomotives, it allows an industrial railway system to link the positional information, transmitted by radio, with databases. This article starts by describing the principle of satellite-aided positioning. On the basis of this, the first combined productive system to be used throughout Europe, OPTIVIA, is described. This system conveys exact positions, both inside (the exact track position) and outside (the exact line position) the plant.
