Solar-powered wireless train approach annunciator

Februar 2008 | Hartwig Asbrock, Olaf Lachmann

GE Transportation has developed a non-vital wireless train approach annunciator for the protection of level crossings using the signal controlled mode (Hp mode), based on a request of DB Netz AG. It replaces a necessary cable connection in the non-vital “train approach” application for the timely activation of the Hp level crossing protection system via the interlocking that is responsible for the signal coverage. Especially in view of increasing distances of typically more than 1000 m between the train approach annunciation point and the interlocking (depending on the line service speed), the conventional, wire-bound solution is costly and lacks the flexibility to quickly adapt to changing requirements. The system is of modular design and consists of components that have been proven in railway applications.
