The Vehicle Interface Adapter: a modular approach to ETCS retrofitting in vehicles
The Vehicle Interface Adapter (VIA) is a Siemens Mobility GmbH solution designed to meet the challenges faced in the ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) rollout in Europe. The integration of ETCS (European Train Control System) on-board equipment in existing rolling stock particularly requires the development of a functioning and low-cost approach. The following will initially describe the motivation and basic approach to the VIA.
