Artificial intelligence as a defensive component in railway applications

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been enjoying widespread public attention, especially since the increased use of large language models such as ChatGPT. The potential uses for AI in rail applications are mainly seen as pertaining to maintenance processes, safety, autonomous driving, traffic planning, revenue management, transport policies and passenger mobility [1]. The use of AI can bring benefits to all the stakeholders and, above all, increase the efficiency and accuracy of the processes.
