Dear readers, The ERTMS 2024 Conference took place in Valenciennes in April. Matthias Ruete, ERTMS Coordinator of the EU Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, lamented to the 700 participants the slow progress made in equipping the routes of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) with ERTMS/ETCS. EU-wide there are now around 9,000 km of ETCS equipped lines, and the fitting of about the same number of vehicles has been authorised. This means that the figures are far below the EU deployment plan....
