Efficiency of interior end position detectors

März 2007 | Herbert Achleitner

European rail administrations are increasingly tending to use modular components in the field of signalling exterior systems. In this context, a defined interface that fits the different signal box types is required, as is maximum availability, reliability, safety and, above all, maintainability. As for turnouts, it is not only a matter of detecting the final position by means of the tongue detector integrated in the point operating unit, but also of detecting the position of the switch blades by means of final position detectors. Primarily this serves to detect large foreign bodies in the area between the closure levels and to indicate inadmissible gauge narrowing by means of final position detection.
