The probability of human error and failure rates in technical ATO systems

The introduction of ATO (Automatic Train Operation) in the railways is a current topic. While experience exists from automated metro systems, completely different and more complex tasks have to be carried out for railway systems. This particularly applies to the situation where the train driver is to be replaced with technical systems. Such problems have been investigated within the framework of the ATO-RISK project [1].
