The trains in the “Train Localisation using Magnetic Signatures” digitalisation project are able to be localised on the tracks by means of their magnetic signatures. This is based on the fact that the magnetisation of ferrous track components such as rails is both non-homogenous and localisable. The magnetic signature can be combined in a digital card with positional information such as GNSS or odometry. A localisation accuracy of < 1 m should be possible depending on the card’s precision....
