Enabling automatic train operation through human problem solving

In future rail operations, the introduction of automatic train operations on main lines will be accompanied by questions concerning the role of the train driver in delivering a safe and punctual service every day. In this article, we advocate the symbiosis of automatic train operation and human decision-making in order to ensure the safety and efficiency of the service in an automated railway future.
