Algorithm-based design of line & timetable variants for long-distance trains in Switzerland

April 2020 | Joël Amstutz

The planning process of railway systems traditionally involves a lot of manual work. Although they seem promising, modern operations reasearch techniques are sparsely involved in the process. By using an optimization toolbox to design line and timetable variants for the long-distance train network in Switzerland, the presented master thesis shows their potential and limits.
