Terminal Planning Systems for High-performance Marshalling Yards

May 2001 | Frank Schneider, Ursula Schassberger

A terminal planning system for marshalling yards supports the yard personnel in the planning and supervision of operations during train arrival, preparation for train cutting, train formation and train departure. This paper first discusses the characteristics of high-performance terminal planning systems. It then goes on to describe VICOS CM 500 (VICOS – Vehicle and Infrastructure Control and Operating System, CM – Cargo Management), a terminal planning system developed by Siemens Transportation Systems in Brunswick (Germany).
