Using the Transmission Lines of Analog Train Radio to Support the Infrastructure of GSM-R

November 2001 | Norbert Wünscher, Peter Kleiner, Rudie Hanff

Within the remaining years of the migration phase, it will be necessary to operate the existing analog train radio in addition to the new digital train radio system GSM-R in order to reach every train. The copper based transmission lines used for modulation in the old system are unable to support the new infrastructure. An investigation to determine whether HDSL technology can be employed to solve this problem was undertaken.
