Railtrack Cross Acceptance of Alcatel’s Multisection Axle Counter

May 2002 | Alan Knight, Peter Magg

The cross acceptance process used to get Railtrack approval for Az LM was being carried out on this scale for the first time. The complexity of both the CENELEC and the Railtrack (Yellow Book) approval processes required that all the responsible parties reached a consensus of opinion on the scope and content of the documentation to be prepared and submitted to Rail-track for approval. The robustness of the CENELEC based processes used for the initial EBA approval of Az LM and the fault and configuration management processes used by Alcatel have proved to be have a high degree of integrity and have been invaluable in levelling the way to a Railtrack approval based on the cross acceptance of the EBA approval. This article describes the approach and methodology of the EBA approval and of the subsequent Railtrack cross acceptance.
