Trends in the development of level crossings from a polish view-point
Despite the trend to reduce the number of crossings at the rail level, their number will remain for some time considerable. These crossings must be equipped with level crossing systems to ensure safety and reduce the number of accidents. At the same time, the existence of unreliable and costly relay-based level crossing systems swells the demand for modern and reliable level crossing systems to meet the present day requirements. Apart from the necessity to meet functional and safety requirements, the most significant advantage of the offered level crossing systems lies in their reliability and low price. It seems that development of new level crossing solutions will be mainly driven by the possibility to offer complete systems, whose production, installation and maintenance cost will be continuously minimized with no compromise to application advantages.
