ETCS-core-based LZB80 with PZB90 function
The increasing need for vehicles for cross border traffic led the freight arm of DB (now called Railion) to order 400 Bombardier* TRAXX* F140 AC locomotives (called BR 185 at DB) with an Automatic Train Protection system based on the European Train Control System system structure using Specific Transmission Modules. Bombardier Rail Control Solutions developed that system and got an approval from the German Eisenbahn-Bundesamt in a mixed process between the German standards and the international standard EN 50129. A description of the system is included in this article.
