Modernization of the Romanian railway telecommunication network

October 2005 | Lucian Milea

The article presents the evolution of the Romanian railway telecommunication network from analog to digital technology. The network’s physical wear and tear and a low technical level in relation to modern communication demands necessitated the modernization of the network. Currently, the Romanian railways have, at national level, over 4200 km of optical fiber cable, SDH and ATM transmission networks and a digital switching ISDN network. In this article, the new railway digital transmission and switching networks are described and plans for future development are presented.
