New decentralised interlocking concept for shunting yards

The role of the Ilmala shunting yard is crucial in the chain of the passenger train traffic system. At the present time, the yard is equipped with three free-wired relay interlocking systems built in the 1970s and 1980s. RHK agreed that the interlocking of the shunting yard should be modernised from 2006 onwards to meet the modern-day requirements. This article briefly describes the key features of the new decentralised interlocking concept to be used for the Ilmala shunting yard.
