Level crossings in Belgium – preparing for a new generation
Infrabel, the manager of the Belgian railway network infrastructure, has decided to undertake a near-complete modernisation of the equipment at 800 level crossings in Belgium. The article gives a brief description of the various types of level crossing in Belgium, explains the steps taken by Infrabel to reduce accidents at level crossings and the reasons for Infrabel’s decision to modernise its equipment. Finally, it describes the equipment to be renewed and the intended improvements.
