Common Safety Method (CSM) on risk evaluation and assessment
In order to promote the harmonisation of the railway safety performance and railway regulation across Europe, the EU Legislators have approved in April 2004 the railway safety directive 2004/49/EC. That directive allocates amongst others the task of defining a Common Safety Method (CSM) on risk evaluation and assessment to the European Railway Agency. The objective of this paper is to summarise and highlight the main characteristics of the CSM Regulation.
