Respecting EN 50128 change control requirements using Bugzilla variants

August 2010 | Maarten Duhoux

All signalling process activities today must be thoroughly documented during the complete lifecycle, from requirements study until disposal at end of life. More specifically, the software development processes will formally have to comply with the requirements in § 6.6 of the proposed prEN 50128:2009 norm [1] “Modification and change control”. In this article, we describe how the open source solution BUGZILLA™ [2], which is designed for managing software development, can assist in complying with several requirements of this new version of the norm by using the functionality of the tool in a certain way. Since February 2002, this tool has helped both project leaders and system engineers at the Signalling Department of Infrabel to prove life cycle respect in generic and specific system/product validation processes. The tool also has proven instrumental in the application of ISO 9001 quality certification requirements of the Department.
