Capacity effects of ERTMS Level 2 from a Dutch perspective

Capacity gains are one of the goals of introducing ERTMS. Increased capacity has attracted less attention than the other primary goals of ERTMS, establishing interoperability and enhancing safety. Most studies concentrate on line capacity, whereas station capacity is often the true bottleneck. In this article we focus on capacity effects of ERTMS Level 2 on the line section Utrecht – ’s-Hertogenbosch, explicitly including these stations.
