The European standard of interlocking requirements is emerging

March 2012 | Maarten Werff, Mirko Blazic

The long-term ambition for standardization of functional requirements for interlocking systems has recently attained results. Now the functionality of a complete European interlocking system has been harmonized and defined. A reduction of system life cycle costs is envisioned, by reducing country-specific functionalities to the minimum. This paper describes the road map to the development of standardized interlocking systems for both conventional and ERTMS compliant applications.
