Implementation of rail specific communication services on bearer-independent platform
Current implementations of rail specific communication services depend heavily on GSM-R, which integrates such services rather deeply, affecting all communication layers. No room is left for other communication systems, either public or LTE. However, on non-interoperable routes and in migration scenarios a bearer-independent implementation has many advantages. The present article describes the requirements and lessons learned from existing implementations and focuses on the implementation of rail specific communication services on a bearer-independent platform.
