Implementing operational requirements for electronic level crossing systems

June 2014 | Erik Lachmann

Complementing statutory legal standards, operational rules and regulations are the essential foundations for safe and reliable railway operations. A significant part of technical and operational rules and regulations is dedicated to the operation of level crossings. These historically developed operational rules and procedures are often incorporated in the existing set of rules books. They must be fully taken into account when introducing electronic level crossing systems. In close cooperation with the (end) customer and the regulatory authority and respecting national and local conditions, it is possible to successfully introduce modern level crossing technology.
