Sustainability and energy efficiency have already been important global issues in society, politics and economy for quite a while. The automotive industry has attracted the attention of the media by working on the construction of electric cars, and even the aerospace industry promotes green concepts like biofuel. The railway sector is thus taking part in a competition which not only concerns hard facts, but also its image as a means of transport that is forwardlooking, resource friendly and socially attractive.
