Piloting the sector guideline for the EIGV in the control-command and signalling systems at DB Netz AG

November 2020 | Matthias Grimm, Axel Stalp

The regulation governing the granting of commissioning permits for the railway system (Eisenbahn-Inbetriebnahmegenehmigungsverordnung – EIGV) came into effect in August 2018. Since then, there has been a legal basis for the legitimation (“approval”) of generic systems and applications for railway control-command and signalling systems (CCS) in Germany. A sector guideline (Sektorleitlinie) has been drawn up as an implementary regulation for the EIGV and it is accompanied by an administrative regulation from the Federal Railway Authority (Eisenbahn-Bundesamt – EBA). This article deals with the piloting of the sector guideline and the resulting changes in the approval process for generic railway control-command and signalling systems.
