Assistance and automation functions are increasingly supporting human drivers. They are even almost completely replacing them in regular operations in ground-based transportation. It is worth taking a look at the system safety standards across different modes of ground-based transportation, as each mode of transport has its own specific challenges, from which others can draw synergies. “Best practices” for railway applications can be recommended for other industries to build upon.
