Methodology for assessing and ensuring the reliability of communication networks for interlocking systems

June 2018 | Lars Schnieder, Ulrich Weber

Interlocking systems are distributed systems. So far, decentralized field elements have been connected via proprietary communication links to interlocking computers, which contain the functions for safeguarding the routes. This will change in the future as a result of increasing modularization and standardization of railway control and protection technology. From the operator’s point of view, this will reduce the life cycle costs of interlocking systems in the long term.
