the rapporteur at the European Parliament’s Transport Committee, Izaskun Bilbao Barandica (Spain), lamented in the draft status report on the European-wide implementation of ETCS that, despite having received European subsidies amounting to 2.7 billion EUR in the period between 2014 and 2020, only 13% of the operating length of the European core network corridors has been fitted with ERMTS/ETCS. 80% of the new locomotives brought into operation up to the middle of 2019 were apparently still with special ETCS versions or completely without any ETCS....
