Experience gained from ETCS asset management at DB Netz AG
ETCS Level 2 (L2) (ETCS, European Train Control System) went into commercial operation in Germany for the first time with opening of the new and upgraded VDE 8.2 Erfurt–Leipzig/Halle line in 2015. After several projects had been used to test the technology, for example on the Munich–Nuremberg line, ETCS now had to prove its reliability in passenger operations. The introduction of this train control system also placed new demands on the operator’s asset management.
