The deployment of a proven test architecture from the rail sector for testing V2X communication technology

May 2021 | Katharina Hartmann, Oliver Röwer, Denny Kopp, Lennart Asbach

The simulation-based testing of communication and automation components is becoming increasingly important in both the railway and automotive sectors. A lot of communication aspects are similar for both sectors. In this article, we present the transfer of a proven test and simulation architecture from the railway sector to the automotive sector. The RailSiTe railway testing laboratory that is used to test and evaluate European vital computers has been expanded with a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) interface that enables cars to send messages. The combination of the proven test and simulation architecture and the V2X standard has created a simulation environment that is able to provide many future applications for different modes of transport.
