RBC simulation for real ETCS test runs

Bottlenecks often arise when planning and conducting ETCS Level 2 (L2) tests because of the current limited availability of tracks for test runs in the L2 mode. This article shows how this difficulty can be overcome. A simulation of an RBC (radio block center) originally intended for the laboratory is integrated into a vehicle so that L2 test runs can also be conducted on tracks which have not been equipped with ETCS. The solution, for which a patent application has been filed, has been trialled on the test ring at the Výzkumný Ústav Železniční (Czech Railway Research Institute, VUZ) in Velim, the Czech Republic [1] and on a siding in Finsterwalde...
