ICE 4 receives ETCS approval in Germany
The Federal Railway Authority (EBA) has approved the ICE 4 for operation with the train control system ETCS (European Train Control System) in Germany. This means that DB’s ICE 4 can go into operation on the Berlin – Munich line equipped with ETCS as planned for the timetable change on 9 December 2018. The ICE 4 are equipped with ETCS Level 2 Baseline 3 for use in cross-border traffic. The operating permit in Switzerland is still pending. 100 ICE 4 (12- and 13-car trainsets) are intended for use in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, 37 seven-car trainsets for Germany and Austria....
