Standardised interfaces as a chance

We have all become used to standardised interfaces. Our laptops would not work as easily as they do today without them. A quick log-in to a WLAN or the connection of a new printer are things that we now all take for granted and appreciate. Many things have also become standard in the industrial environment. We exchange CAD data and connect new barcode readers to existing systems relatively easily. However, is it only signalling technology, where this does not work?
