The monitoring of red light infractions with railway crossing safety equipment (EKSA) at ÖBB
The monitoring of vehicles using imaging equipment to ascertain red light transgressions with railway crossing safety equipment (EKSA) was approved by an amendment to the Railway Act dated 6th May 2010. ÖBB has taken a significant step towards greater railway crossing safety with the technical implementation of so-called “red light monitoring” in addition to other measures (something like the elimination of railway level crossing). The first pilot facility was commissioned by ÖBB in May 2012.
