ARTE – a technical solution for driverless trains on non-ETCS lines
The ARTE (Automated Regional Trains in Lower Saxony) project has been running since January 2022 with the aim of researching driverless operations on regional lines without any ETCS track equipment. Test runs in GoA 3, GoA 4 and remote operations are scheduled for the summer of 2024. This article describes the technical solution to this problem and references the evolving European standards.
