Dear readers, the EU Parliament and the member states reached an agreement on the text of the updated Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) Directive on 19 December 2023. With regard to rail transport, it has been agreed that the core network will be electrified by the end of 2030. Good trains must be able to achieve speeds of at least 100 km/h in this network, while passenger trains must be able to achieve a minimum speed of 160 km/h. The border clearance at EU internal borders should take goods trains a maximum of 25 minutes on average....
