End-to-end communication over the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS)
The imminent obsolescence of the 2G-based GSM-R system means that a successor is needed. The Future Railway Mobile Communication (FRMCS), the standardisation of which will very soon be finalised, has been specified as a successor system which is intended to give railway-specific applications a long service life. This is primarily to be achieved by separating the applications from the transmission technology, which will initially be 5G-based.
