Smartrail 4.0: our steps towards automation
The railways are facing major challenges. Demand is rising and expectations are increasing in terms of reliability and punctuality. The infrastructure is fast reaching its limits. The available resources are barely sufficient to meet these needs. Autonomous road vehicles are being rolled out and will eventually supplement or replace rail transport, while shorter travel times, individualised routes and cost pressures are forcing railways to question their processes. Digitisation enables new solutions for this purpose....
