Railway and passenger communication: the transition from 2G/GSM-R to 5G/FRMCS as viewed by SBB
GSM-R is nearing the end of its life cycle. New communication requirements resulting from digitisation projects such as smartrail 4.0 require a successor system, namely FRMCS. Time is of essence here in terms of the period available for implementation. The availability of the required additional frequencies must be clarified in 2020.
