Entry into digital interlocking technology: When is the right time? How should the interim phase be arranged?
The target architecture of the signalling equipment for Deutsche Bahn AG’s infrastructure has already been defined. The required technologies, such as the Design Integrated Operator Workplace (DiB) or the Digital Interlocking System (DSTW), are at various stages of development and not yet fully available, while upgrades of the existing infrastructure are urgently needed. How can this interim phase between today’s state of affairs and the start of the rollout of “Digital Rail Germany (DSD)” be reasonably managed?
