SmartSwitch Network based on ATM for ProRail

September 2004 | Harry Bouwman

ProRail, the Dutch rail-infra manager, will replace its multi-wire copper cables based network with an ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) telecommunications network that will supply all its control and support systems. The choice of ATM is based on performance and Quality of Service. The main goal is to provide one network with all services at a high availability. The challenge was to facilitate the integration of both the legacy systems and the new TCP/IP based systems into this network.
