Improvement of European railway interoperability through availability of operational information
Railway operations contribute to and are embedded in a complex data environment. By harvesting the benefits from information available in real time, cost savings and safety enhancements can be achieved. The optimisation of railway business processes depends largely on the sharing of upto- date information on the transport process. In order to be competitive with other modes of transport, the stakeholders in the railway transport domain must use commercially available equipment wherever possible. Standardisation is crucial for the rapid and consistent deployment of new technologies and for the efficient introduction of interoperable and cooperative system solutions. It makes sense to foster the use of W3C recommendations in telematics for railways and learn from the dynamic consultation processes in other business areas.
