Autonomous Power Supply Systems in Railway Signalling

October 2002 | Harald Walter

Wireless communication technologies are enabling increasing decentralisation of information processing in railway signalling. However, costs can only be saved if the infrastructure costs for supplying power to the field elements are reduced or avoided completely. Decentralised, autonomous power supply systems therefore represent an important alternative to net-work- supplied systems. This article explains the requirements of decentralised power supply systems and their components. It also presents a few examples of application.
