Safety technologies and management of railway signalling in Japan
This paper describes safety technologies and management of computerised railway signalling systems in Japan. Firstly, hardware and software safety techniques will be summarised, and the safety guidelines for train control and protection systems will be outlined. Then, risk analysis and definition of safety integrity level will be discussed, including a new approach to evaluations of safety measures. Present situations of safety management in Japan and new IEC/TC9 standards will also be described.
