Status and Trends of the Technological RegulationAspects for the Japanese Railways

In Japan, the railway assumes the core role in transporting passengers over the country, in the metropolitan areas and among urban centers. The railway accounts for nearly 30 % of the traffic in number of passengers per km, and it has kept this level for the last ten years, while the automobile’s share is less than 70% and airplane about 5% respectively.
