ETCS at international borders: interoperability and equipment variants
The Technical Specification for Interoperability (TSI) has paved the way for the European Train Control System (ETCS) to eventually enable the unrestricted operation of traction units. However, given that each railway infrastructure manager uses its own system configuration, such configurations need to be attuned to one another at their interfaces. While the number of system transitions (e.g. level transitions) is limited, variations within the systems seem to be unlimited.
