Migration from GSM-R to FRMCS
On April 14, 2022 Funkwerk Systems GmbH made a small piece of European railway history. The first FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System) voice call was realised between two mobile participants in a stand-alone 5G network under dynamic conditions. Modern Funkwerk devices that meet the current requirements for railway operations were used (fig. 1). This event, which is unspectacular in reality, required a series of demanding technical aspects.
